Amico Mio wins End Of Season Cup

Jockey Marvin Suerland dazzled on the final day's race meeting of the 2012-13 season with four wins including the main event at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (REC) on May 9.

The seven races today were held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Thani Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Suerland won the third and fourth races and capped off the season with sixth and seventh race victories on the day. The last race was the End Of Season Cup (Thoroughbred Stakes race).

Yousef Bentaher trained Amico Mio was ridden to victory by Suerland in the feature event – End Of Season Cup.

Today's race meeting was the 60th and last of 2012-13 season.

Amico Mio won by three and half lengths in a time of one minute and 32.33 seconds. Beethoven was second followed by Peter Anders.

Before riding Amico Mio, Suerland had won three races with Al Yarmouk, Christmas Aria and Bin Amer. Mohammed Hamad Al Attiya trained Bin Amer (Suerland astride) won a thrilling Pure Arabian Stakes contest. In the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap race for horses rated 40 to 70, Suerland took Mohammed Khalid nurtured Al Yarmouk to 'Shorthead' victory. Thawi took second position while Khalfa settled for third. Suerland's other success came in the Thoroughbred Handicap race for horses rated 50 to 70. Suerland guided Debbie Mountain schooled Christmas Aria to victory.

It was a good final day for Suerland considering he won four races out of seven on the day.

Einen außerordentlich guten Tag erwische Marvin Suerland (Foto) zum Abschluss der Galopp-Saison in Katar. Am vergangenen Donnerstag konnte der 26-Jährige vier der sieben Rennen gewinnen. Darunter befand sich auch der mit 80.000 QR (ca. 17.000 Euro) dotierte End Of Season Cup über die Meile. Es war das Hauptereignis des Tages.

Suerland gewann den Tages-Höhepunkt mit Amico Mio (Y. Betaher) vor Beethoven und Peter Anders. Davor gewann er ein Handicap (45.000 QR, ca. 9.500 Euro) über 1850 Meter mit Al Yarmouk (M. Khalid) und ein Handicap (45.000 QR, ca. 9.500 Euro) über die Meile mit Christmas Aria (Fr. D. Mountain). In einem Altersgewichtsrennen (60.000 QR, ca. 12.700 Euro) über 1400 Meter war er mit Bin Amer (M.Hamad Al Attiya) nicht zu schlagen.
