Suerland rides Nashmi to thrilling Al Wajba Cup win

The Al Wajba Cup had just six runners, yet it panned out to be an extremely electrifying race. The supporters of each of the two contenders had a lot to shout about at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club yesterday. Alban de Mieulle trained Nashmi (Marvin Suerland up) fought brilliantly to stave off the challenge of Aziz Al Shahania in a scintillating two horse finish in the Pure Arabian Advanced Plate which carried a purse of QR 100,000.

Maseh took the lead soon on start and Nashmi galloped just behind the leader. Guillambert kept Aziz Al Shahania in a handy fourth position, waiting for the right moment to strike. The race took a serious turn midway up the straight when Nashmi went past Maseh. The Julian Smart saddled Aziz Al Shahania emerged with a fiery run full of power and challenged Nashmi. A terrific battle ensued between the two. Nashmi was unrelenting to the pressure as he fought every inch of the ground with Aziz Al Shahania. The duo went past the winning post locked together and the photo finish revealed that Nashmi had won by a shorthead.
 
 
Nashmi edges out Aziz Al Shahania to win Al Wajba Cup

Alban de Mieulle-trained Nashmi won the Al Wajba Cup in a tight finish on Thursday, 19 December 2013. The Pure Arabian Advanced Plate, run over 1,850-metre race featured the card of nine races at the Racing and Equestrian Club.

Jockey Marvin Suerland got Nashmi into a striking position as the field entered the straight for the final run and pushed his way to take over the lead with 300 metres left from the wire. Julian Smart-saddled Aziz Al Shahania came with a flourish towards the closing stages, but was unable to get past Nashmi. The de Mieulle's trainee held on by a whisker at the finish. Khabbab and El Zouarda took the third and fourth places respectively.
 
Suerland ist in Katar erfolgreich

Einen Sieg gab es auch für Marvin Suerland, der am Donnerstag in Katar im Einsatz war, auch wenn er sich bis zum letzten Rennen der Karte Zeit ließ. Dafür gewann er aber wieder das Hauptrennen des Tages. Mit Nashmi (A. de Mieulle ) siegte Suerland im Al Wajba Cuo über 1850 Meter. Nashmi steht in Besitz der Umm Qarn Farm, die gemeinsam mit der Shahania Farm zu den größten Besitzern Katars zählt. Suerland schraube damit seine Gewinnsumme auf 156,920 Qatar Rial (circa 31.500 Euro).
